Event Information

The Nodes Quest Run-Swim-Run event will take place on Sunday 29 January 2023.  

This is a Run-Swim-Run and Run event format which is suitable for all age groups including both kids, junior and novices distances.   The Nodes Quest now forms part of the City of Joondalup Tri Series.

General Race Information

Date:   Sunday 29th January 2023 
Start Time:  6:00am

Location:   Start/Finish at Whitford Nodes Park, Hillarys

Race strip:   Swim - Open Water,  Run - Path (bitumen/concrete),  Transition - Sand/Grass

Awards and Prizes:   Medals to all finishers (including TinLids 7-11Yrs), Top 3 place medals (see below) and Lucky Draw prizes for all events.

Race Distances

Nodes 5K Run

  • Juniors 11+ yrs and Seniors

Nodes 10K Run

  • Juniors 13+ yrs and Seniors

TryStars/Tin Lids Swim-Run  ( 500m Run / 100m Swim / 500m Run)

  • Junior 7 to 11 years

Juniors Swim-Run  ( 1km Run / 300m Swim / 1km Run)

  • Junior 12 to 15 years

  • Junior 16 to 19 years - suitable for all junior and junior elite athletes 16 -19 years

Short Course Swim-Run  ( 1km Run / 300m Swim / 1km Run)

  • Suitable for all athletes, beginner and novice athletes

Long Course Swim-Run  2.5km Run / 1km Swim / 2.5km Run)

  • Juniors and Senior 14+ yrs

Course Format

Run

  • 5km Run  - 2 x lap out and back loop

  • 10k Run - 3 x laps out and back loop

Run-Swim-Run Format

  • Run  - 1 x lap out and back loop

  • Swim - 1 x lap (2 x 500m Lap for the Long Course, competitors will need to exit the water and re-enter on each lap.)

  • Run  - 1 x lap out and back loop

 

Course Terrain 

Note: - The run legs are all along the coastal path (bitumen/concrete).  Competitors must run in shoes and have their upper torso covered.   A designated transition area is provided on the run-out lap to dispose of or place shoes, running and swim gear..

Registration Pickup

Registration pickup (numbers, swim cap) will be available only on race day at the following dates and times:

  • Sunday 29th January 2023 - From 5:30am to 8:00am on race day at the Start/Finish area Whitford Nodes Park, Hillarys

Please ensure you have registered and collected your Swim Cap (Run-Swim-Run) and Bib number (for Run) within the times indicated above.  Also ensure that on race morning for the Run-Swim-Run races both your arms marked with your race number.  This will be available during registration on race morning.

Bag Drop

A bag drop area is available on race day and will be located in the recovery area at the finish.   Please note that is not controlled so competitors leave their bag at their own risk.
 

Club Gazebos

Space is plenty at the race location at Whitford Nodes Park so clubs are welcome to setup on the day, just advise the organisers in advance via events@xtrmultisports.com.au

Why not make the most of a fun event for a final hit-out with your club mates and enjoy a post race breakfast picnic!

Race Briefing

Race briefings will be held 10 minutes prior to each wave start near transition and the starting area for each event - this is on Whitford Nodes Park for all the events.  Please ensure to familiarise yourself with the Swim entry direction and swim course layout. 

Transition (Run-Swim-Run only)

The Transition zone is on Whitford Nodes Park next to the race start.  Transition will be open 5 minutes before the start of each race to layout your Swim and transition gear.for all the events.  Transition for your race will open once all competitors from your race are finished.  Please ensure to familiarise yourself with the Swim entry direction and swim course layout.  Note:

  • You may not leave bags in transition.

  • You can run with your swim gear (cap and goggles) but must have your torso covered during the run.

  • You must enter transition to put on shoes for the 2nd Run leg

Wave Categories

Wave categories will be by  Age Group and no seperate Open/Elite category will apply.  Initial wave divisions and and start times are listed below and subject to change based on entry numbers.

Note - If your race timing allows you are able to enter multiple races.

Start Waves  (Updated 27 January 2022.  Note -  subject to change without notice, including additional waves)

  1.   6:30am - Nodes 5km 

  2.   6:32am - Nodes 10km

  3.   7:30am - TryStars/Tin Lids (Kids)  - 7 to 11 yrs Male/Female  (Swim cap - Yellow)

  4.   8:00am - Short - Juniors, Senior/Novice all ages - Male (Swim cap - Green),  Female. (Swim cap - Purple)

  5.   8:30am - Long Course  - all Age Groups - Male (Swim cap - Green), Female(Swim cap - Purple)


 

Presentations

All presentations will take place at at the finish area at approximately: 

  • 8:15am -  TinLids - Lucky Draw Prizes

  • 8:45am -  Nodes 5km and 10km & Lucky Draw Prizes

  • 9:30am -  Short & Long Course Swim-Run,   including Lucky Draw Prizes

Note:  The presentations times are subject to change and will start earlier if ahead of schedule. 
 

Race Divisions

Participants will participate in one of the following categories:

  • Kids -  7-11 Yrs

  • Juniors -  12-15 Yrs, 16-19 yrs

  • Short - 16-19 Yrs,  20-24 yrs,  25-29 Yrs. . . . . 65-69,  70+

  • Long  -  16-19 Yrs,  20-24 yrs,  25-29 Yrs. . . . . 65-69,  70+

 

Note:

  • Age is calculated in align to TA policy being athletes age as at 31st of December 2022.

  • Prize placings are across all Age Group categories so based on overall placings.

Prizes

Medals to all finishers (including TryStars/Tin Lids 7-11Yrs), Top 3 place medals in each senior race (see below) and Lucky Draw prizes for all events.   Place medals will be awarded to:

  • Nodes 5K Run - 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female

  • Nodes 10K Run - 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female

  • TryStars/Tin Lids (Kids 7-11Yrs) - medals to all finishers

  • Short course - 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female

  • Long Course  - 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female,  1st Paratri male and female

Note: 

All Non-TA affiliated and TA Basic Member entries will be required to purchase a Triathlon Australia one day race licence (ODL).


Other Luck Draw Prizes include

  • Lucky draw prizes will vary per event but some of the inclusion will be - Drink Bottles, , travel sunscreen, stress balls, Energy gels, SIS Energy bars,  Swim Goggles and lollies of course!

 

Note:  All lucky draw prizes on the day are only valid if your race number is drawn and you are personally present to receive the award at the prize giving on race day.  Lucky draw prizes for entrants not present at the race day prize giving will be invalid and their will be a re-draw for that prize.

The lucky draw box will be passed around before prize giving so be sure to keep you race number!

Parking

Competitor parking is available in the following locations;

  • Whitfords Nodes Carpark

  • Hillarys Animal Beach Carpark and

  • Pinnaroo Point Carpark.

 

The available parking opportunities at these locations will be sufficient for the anticipated competitor numbers.   The car parks will remain open through the event.

 

Competitors or visitors arriving are expected to park with common sense and in accordance to the City of Joondalup’s Local Parking Laws. These include but are not limited to;

  • No Parking on/over a footpath

  • Park facing the same direction as the traffic

  • No parking on private resident’s verge or driveway (without the owners consent)

  • Not on private property without the owners consent.

It is recommended to arrive early to ensure a spot and allow plenty of time for registration.

Dunes and Walkways

Participants and supporters should take note of restrictions in regard to access to the beach via designated walkways and not enter dunes areas – please refer to and take note of the appropriate access signs.

The run legs are on the coastal shared path so please keep to your left, take care when overtaking and show respect to all other shared path users including competitors, volunteers and pedestrians.
